Music keys and chords1/3/2023 ![]() If you can figure out the notes in the Major Scale for the key you want to play, then there is a simple formula you can use to find out what chords you can play in that key.ġ Major, 2 minor, 3 minor, 4 Major, 5 Major, 6 minor, 7 Diminished, 8 Major. So a song based on the key of C will (generally) use the notes C D E F G A B C. The notes in the C Major Scale are C D E F G A B C. #MUSIC KEYS AND CHORDS HOW TO#If you don’t know how to figure out the notes in a Major Scale, have a read through this lesson here. So if somebody says let’s jam in the key of C, what they mean is let’s jam using the notes and chords that are part of the C Major Scale. When somebody says a song is in a certain ‘key’ or ‘key signature’, they mean that the song is formed around the notes in a certain scale.
